Interview With 'Russell James'

Firstly, introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about how you came to be?

My name is Russell James and I am an Electronic Pop artist. I’ve played in many bands before and I just got tired of things not working out and having to rely on other people for my success. I finally decided to go solo because now, I only have to rely on myself. I’ve been solo for about a year now and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made musically.

What were you up to prior to your music and was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

I’ve had a passion for music since I was about 15 years old. Before that I’ve always loved video games and skateboarding. I never really got serious about pursuing music as a career until I was about 19.

Tell us about your latest release and why our readers should check it out.

My latest release is my new single “Comedown”. I also released a music video for the song which you can check out on YouTube and Facebook. The song is available on all major music outlets online. I really enjoy this song and I feel it really has a sound if it’s own. It has catchy melodies, a nice rhythm that sets the pace for the song, and many people can relate to the context of the lyrics as well. I’m definitely proud of this one.

Who would you say is the main song writer or is it a group effort and where do you draw your inspiration lyrically and musically from?

I wrote the lyrics, melodies, and structure for the song. Itbangz produced the beat for me. I draw inspiration from real life situations and experiences whether it be personally or a friend/family member. I feel like my lyrics are very relatable to many people just because they’re very real, raw, and emotional.

As an artist what do you believe is your greatest achievement to date and why?

Being able to have the ability to create something to positively impact someone’s life is the greatest achievement to me. If I can just help one person throughout their day and encourage them, its worth it to me in the end.

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

Justin Goodson from Days To Come. He’s a very talented singer/songwriter and he’s definitely very unique. He’s really helped shape me as a singer/songwriter as well.

What do you enjoy most about touring?

Meeting new people and exploring new places. Touring allows me to experience things I normally wouldn’t be able to. I love the sense of adventure.

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

Raw, Energetic, Genuine, Positive vibes.

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

Maroon 5. I really love their sound and I’ve been following them since their first album. Adam Levine has such an incredible voice and is a huge inspiration to me.

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

Michael Jackson. The dude is a legend and has had such an impact on the world of music. I wouldn’t do the speaking. I would let him do all the talking and try to gather as much knowledge from him as I possibly could.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

Unfortunately, I’ve never seen it so I wouldn’t know.
