Interview With 'Hiraeth'

Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?

We are 5 piece Punk/Metalcore band from Canberra Australia. Formed in 2016 as “Lions Of The Underground” as a small project we slowly changed, evolving into Hiraeth. With the change we became more versatile and really improved our stage presence to something to be seen!

What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

No one really had big plans aside from Skip, having met the other boys around 3 years ago sparked the initial motivation to become something more. Everyone just sort of had their own trades and just spent most of their time playing games or hanging out with their girlfriends. You could say a lot has changed and we’ve all become very dedicated to the dream, just playing our music loud for everyone to hear. The rest is just a bonus.

Tell us about your latest EP and why our readers should check it out?

Our last EP “Oblivious” was released in 2017 under our former name “Lions Of the Underground”. We still continue to play these songs as they shaped this band into who we are, you can find these songs on many platforms starting with Spotify and iTunes. Stay tuned for some new releases in the new year!

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

Between the beginning and the present, as a band there’s one other that continues to leave us feeling starstruck with their stage presence, charisma and musical talent. We’ll always look up to Australian local legends “Lycanthrope”. Check them out, they go hard!

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

If you were to make your way to one of our shows, you’ll find yourself in 2008. You can expect catchy Melody’s and traditional Metal riffs. But on the contrary, some unusual song structures.

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

If we had to pick one band, it would be “Parkway Drive”. Not only do they have such a strong stage presence, but they helped shape Hiraeth into what it is today.

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

That’s a difficult question, we’ve all got so many influences. But as a band, I’m sure we’d all love to spend some time with “Polaris”. Just to pick their brain about how they come up with their creative flare, recording tips and tricks and of course drinking stories.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

Yes! Die Hards everyone’s favourite Christmas movie!
