Interview With 'The Frost'

Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?

Our names are Christian Gratz and LeahBeth Evans. Together, we are The Frost.

Leah: The band came to be when back in 2015, Christian had a solo gig. He asked me to sing a few songs with him. The owners loved the way we sounded together and asked us to continue playing as a duo for the remainder of the performances. We decided to come up with a name for ourselves called “The Frost.”

Christian: After the summer, we kept getting hired for private parties and opened for Disco artist Pamela Stanley. Leah eventually purchased a guitar for me and we started playing more venues. We just kept the ball rolling.

What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

Christian: I’ve been playing in bands since I’ve been 15. Some of them local, sometimes I’ve played solo, and other times I’ve been invited by popular bands you might know to perform for a couple shows, like the Drifters, The Grass Roots and Three Dog Night.

Leah: I’ve also been in bands since I’ve been 15. I used to play with a couple of Jazz bands. We would have some decent gigs and then it would fall through. I was performing in a Rock band prior to meeting Chris.

I would say for both of us, Music and performing has always been the chosen path. Now we get to do this together and it’s just great!

Tell us about your latest release and why our readers should check it out.

So we have approached the Music release in a different way. When we started playing together , we were playing Jazz, Rock and some Country covers. We both wrote and released singles on our own. They’re all up on multiple platforms under our own names

Together as The Frost, We do not have an album out just yet but it’s definetly in the works for the future.

We would like to tell you about our newest single coming out on September 28th though.

The song is a country tune called “Gotta Live Fast.” The song is fun, catchy and uplifting. We felt inspired to write this one night after driving home from a Country bar we had just played at. The road was bumpy, it was the middle of summer and a couple lightning bugs got splattered on our windshield (gross!), there were reckless drivers on the road which would make anybody nervous and Leah ran over this large animal we believe was a fox. It was so sudden and there was no way to stop the car and being there were cars behind us, she would have hit somebody trying to dodge it. It made us realize how abruptly life can come to an end. The messege we send to our audience and listeners in the song are to live life to the fullest, and with as little misery as possible. We feel that you are bound to tap your foot to the tune and sing along and have fun with it!

It’ll be on iTunes, Spotify, and multiple platforms worldwide September 28.

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

We’ve met a lot of people in the music scene. Especially “big names.” Some have left us “awestruck” because they are so entitled and rude, but others we were “awestruck” because they were compassionate towards other musicians. One of these musicians is Heidi Parton, neice of Dolly Parton.

We were honored to be nominated for a Josie Music Award which was held at the Celebrity Theatre in Dollywood which was founded by Dolly Parton. We had the pleasure of meeting Heidi and she was so down to earth. She was happy to be in a room with other musicians who share the same passion as her and we thought that was really great. Her performance also floored us. She’s got a wonderful voice.

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

Well, we play covers and originals. You can expect a mix of anything and everything. When we play a Cover we generally like to make it our own. For example, there’s certain tunes that are considered “Hip Hop” but we will twist it into a Jazz or Funk tune. We put our own creativity into covers. Our originals are mostly southern sounding.

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

Christian: Steely Dan, because his fans really love and appreciate Music.

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

Christian: George Benson. He has so much skill that I would want to talk about with him and his philosophy on life.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

Leah: haha! I think my favorite is Elf. That’s new to some people but for me being 23, it’s a classic!
