The Klittens - Fulford Arms, York 29.10.2026

This was my first trip the Fulford Arms in a while, it’s one of those brilliant grass routes venues that York doesn’t have enough of so it consistently punches above its weight. It’s a brilliant little venue that has seen a number of bands play their first gig in York over the years.
I was there to see Dutch band The Klittens but before that there was the matter of two support acts, you always get fantastic value for money at the Fulford Arms
I’m still genuinely not sure what to make of the first support act, Beer & Evans, I may have the spelling of that wrong! There were two of them, both multi-instrumentalists. They were clearly talented, could play their instruments very well and Evans in particular had a great voice but it was all a bit chaotic, they seemed unsure which song they were playing next, there was a lot of laughter some of which seemed nervous and there were times that it seemed to grind to a halt but they have the songs, they have the talent and if, and it’s the crucial if, they can be a bit less nervous and a bit more focused then they could go far.
The second and penultimate support act were Eddy’s Mistake, a new band to me with one half of the first support act on drums. They were clearly quite early in their career and there was the occasional mis-step including the drummer thinking they were finished before they were but there’s real talent in the band and a lot of intended humour, the lead singer has charisma in spades and a voice that worked really well with their music. I don’t know who their songwriter is but there is a lot to really like about this band. I think with a little bit of refinement and the right luck they could go far. I will keep an eye out for them as I would see them again.
The main act, the Klittens, came on just after 9. I’ll be honest I hadn’t heard of the Klittens a month and a half ago. I was looking at upcoming gigs and fancied a gig at the Fulford Arms, listened to a few different bands and The Klittens were the standout band for me, luckily they agreed to my request for a review.
The gig lived up to my expectations, they are a brilliant live band. So much stage presence and so much talent with some brilliant songs. This tour is in support of their debut album which has just been released, titled 'Have A Heart', it’s well worth investing in. They have a way with a melody and a lyric that draws you in and makes you want to hear more.
They were also funny, engaging and came across as very thoughtful. I went there with the expectation of hearing a good show I left regretting it wasn’t longer and there weren’t more people there to witness it. This is band who deserve a much wider audience. They are also self deprecating, they genuinely appeared to not expect to be called back to the stage for one more song after they’d finished but the crowd were insistent and would not be denied. Thankfully the band obliged and delivered probably their best song of the night. What a way to head off into the night, having discovered a brilliant live act who are also great on record.
Hopefully they will come back again soon as I will be there! The Klittens should be your new discovery, go on, give them a go.
