No one thought we'd ever see them grace the shore of the UK again. But the sound of my youth are here. And judging by the energy inside the O2 Victoria Warehouse everyone is thankful the wait is over. The set leaned heavily on the band’s biggest hits, delivering that perfect hit of nostalgia. But that said it is worth noting that the more recent releases still sit more than comfortably within the set. For over 20 years the band have essentially been a hit factory. They could rejig the set list each night of the tour and still give the audience banger after banger.
Return To Dust were up first and though not 100% for me, they came and did what any great opening act should do and got the crowd pumped. From the pit I could overhear audience members stating how good these guys were. Though I did find it ever so slighlty repetitive, their energy can not be knocked. And their cover of Outkast's 'Hey Ya' was definitely a highlight.
They were followed by Chevelle, whose reputation far proceeded them. From the beginning to end, their energy never let up. I have long been a fan of the song 'Self Destructor' so hearing that played live was a massive bonus for me. They made the most of their support slot and left me feeling exahusted just watching them bounce around.
The anticipation inside the Victoria Warehouse reached another level as Breaking Benjamin took to the stage. Tonight with a special additional member in the form of Lead Singer Ben's son. Who at such a young age instantly showcased his talent and confidence on both vocal and guitar duties. Throughout it was a pleasure to see a proud father watching his son rock the O2 Victoria.
As for the band themselves, they never missed a beat. Hit, after hit echoed around the venue as an already sweaty environment reached fever pitch. With my personal highlights being 'Breath', 'Dance with the Devil' and 'Diary of Jane'. 16 year old me, would have been losing his shit if I told him almost 20 years later he'd be photographing one of his favorite bands.
Over 10 years the UK waited for their return and we really hope it won't be another 10. But if it is, it will certainly be worth the wait. They came, they saw, they conquered and left behind them a sea of incredibly happy and satifised fans.
