Interview With 'Call To Arms'

Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?

Call To Arms was formed back in July 2013, by Dean Donnelly (Vocalist) and then bassist Jordan Conway, who quickly recruited Niall Ennis and Daniel Tyrell (Guitars). Along side then drummer Ben Deane, we spent 6 months writing and rehearsing before our live debut. From then there has been a few line up changes with Alex Caffrey replacing Jordan on bass and Ronan Murphy replacing Ben on drums. We quickly got a name for ourselves and have supported many international acts such as Chelsea Grin, Fozzy, and most recently Ukranian Metalcore band Jinjer. We have now reached a point where we are about to release our debut album along with expanding past the Irish horizon.

What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

For the current line up which consists of Dean, Alex, Niall and Daniel, this has always been the only option. We have grown up together dreaming of being in a touring Metal band. Before CTA we had all been in at least one band with one or two of the others.

Tell us about your debut album and why our readers should check it out.

We are in the final mixing stages of our debut album ‘Fallacy’. We are about to release our second single off the album ‘Vultures’ on December 15th, almost exactly a year after releasing our first single ‘The Reaper Never Sleeps’ which is currently on Youtube and Spotify.

I believe people should check out this album as it is 2 years worth of pain staking hard work. We put everything into this album, dealt with many set backs and hardship while writing/recording this album, and I think people will be able to see the raw passion put into it. We took influence from every band we love, and glued it together to be what we feel is a refreshing look on Metal.

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

I think meeting and supporting Avatar was huge because we had seen them 6 months prior supporting Avenged Sevenfold in the 3Arena and they blew them off the stage and to think that we had the chance to support these guys was unbelievable. John their drummer was incredibly nice and gave us advice on being an up and coming band which obviously meant a lot.

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

Intense, raw passion and energy. We put everything we have into every single gig.

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

It would definitely have to be Gojira! They’re one of the few bands we can all agree on and say they’re one of our favourites. They are just absolutely immense.

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

I think that’d be Dimebag. He was the absolute master of riffs, and just a genuinely nice guy.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

Of course!
