Every so often I listen to a piece of music having read the PR that comes with it in the expectation that I’m probably not going to like it, in fact sometimes I think I shouldn’t have been sent it in the first place.
As someone who loves Public Enemy, continues to love diverse bands such as Living Colour and Linkin Park, still likes to put some Cypress Hill on and thinks the mix of Rock and Hip Hop hasn’t worked as much as it patently should I approached this EP with a degree of trepidation. I genuinely felt that maybe I wasn’t the right person to review this EP.
I’m so glad I gave it a try, it is excellent. It’s one of those EP’s that, with one exception (NYC Chat, which I didn’t feel added anything and did nothing for me) blows you away on the first listen.
Repeated listens just made me want to listen again, there is a lot going on here, a lot of genre hopping, a lot of passion and energy, a lot of anger and commitment. Clearly OXYMORRONS have a point to make, but they’ve decided to do it in a way that should engage lots of different people from lots of diverse backgrounds.
I wanted to headbang, I wanted to storm the barricades, I wanted things to change! What more do you want from music?
