Bleachers – 'Modern Girl' – Single Review

Bleachers have returned with the lead single from their forthcoming, as yet unnamed new album. Their first release on their new record label Dirty Hit. Lead singer Jack Antonoff is currently one of the busiest men in music working with Taylor Swift and Lana Del Ray amongst many, many others so it’s pleasing he’s managed to find time to get back to the band.

The band have always drawn a strong influence from the 80’s and 90’s and that hasn’t changed with this new single. It’s a joyous, infectious ear worm of a record, the horns blaring out, the sheer joy in Jack’s voice, the exuberance of a band who are clearly loving life right now. The video is a joy to watch, the record a joy to listen to and the whole overall feel is of a great piece of rock and roll, paying homage to the past but still sounding uniquely fresh and modern.

If this the album is as good as this single we have a contender for one of the great albums of the year coming out. It’s two years since the last album and for a band that produce such life affirming music that’s way too long!

This single has already had airtime of Radio 1 and could be set to explode big time, it absolutely deserves to, hear it and you’ll want to dance around and sing along, what more do you want?
