Interview With 'Midnight Skies'

Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?

We are a 3 piece Pop Rock band called Midnight Skies. We started this year, we were originally called Beneath The Spin Light, but changed names due to the name being a song title from a Brand New song, and as many of you know, their singer was caught for some terrible things. We couldn’t with good conscious continue forward under that name so we made the decision as a band to start fresh with completely new music, look, and sound. To give some back story on the members of the band and how this all formed, I’m Sullivan, Im the lead singer and rhythm guitarist, Kalevi our drummer, is my younger brother. Him and I grew up jamming together so we decided to form what was at the time BTSL. We played shows locally and eventually met Kyle our lead guitarist/backup vocalist at a show that both of our bands were performing at and became friends. Fast forward about 5-6 months, we had a couple member changes and we needed another guitarist for a few shows, he ended up accepting our invite to play with us and what was supposed to just be a few shows turned into Kyle being a permanent member.

What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

Before Midnight Skies, we were all very involved in music. Being in BTSL for 4+ years, touring, writing, recording, etc. Growing up I was constantly going to shows coming through Seattle and getting to know local bands in the scene. Being in a band and making music has always been a big part of our lives and is something we are so stoked to continue doing.

Tell us about your latest release and why our readers should check it out.

So far we only have this single that we’re dropping, but everyone should check out this song because I think a lot of people will enjoy the new sound we are going for. 'Mind Reader' has a new, but familiar sound that I think can reach a ton of new audiences we have never reached before. The song packs a punch with catchy hooks, lots of energy, and a ton of emotion.

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

I have yet to meet Marilyn Manson so no.

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

We try and make our live shows as crazy as possible. Expect lots of energy and crowd involvement.

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

Probably All Time Low. They have been a band that has inspired me greatly over the years and have pushed me to become a better writer and musician. It would be crazy to get to tour with them.

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

If I could spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, it would obviously be Michael fuckin Jackson. Because he's the king.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

Die Hard isn't a Christmas Movie. It's a drama about a man who OD'd on viagra.
