Interview With 'Genus Ordinis Dei'
Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?
This is Richard, I play drums in the band. We all born and raised in the same town (Crema) and we always played in different musical project before actually come up with this band.
In 2012 we started out Genus Ordinis Dei, we recorded our first album “The Middle”, followed by an intense run of show between Italy and Europe. Later, in 2015 we met Marco Coti Zelati from Lacuna Coil and we started to work together on our self-titled EP with him as a producer. In 2016 we signed with Mighty Music for the release of both the album and we started to write our brand new album.
Meanwhile we’ve been invited by Lacuna Coil to join their Delirium World Tour as opening act for every show in EU/UK and it’s been amazing! Back from the tour we signed a deal with Eclipse Records, and our album Great Olden Dynasty has been released on Nov 24th.
What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?
We all come from families who always shared their love for music with us, so being a musician and live surrounded by music is always been our main aspiration! No B-Plans at all!
Tell us about your latest Album and why our readers should check it out.
Great Olden Dynasty'' is to us a significant step forward in the bands career. It is modern and fresh and it is something quite new too. A lot of people ask us to describe our music genre and we say “Symphonic Death” but it is a lot more. It is something that we have never heard in other bands. Of course you can find something from Lamb Of God, from Dimmu Borgir or Fleshgod Apocalypse..but everything is mixed together and we think it sounds great! Could be a good discovery!!
Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?
We worked with Maki from Lacuna Coil, and he influenced a lot the way we write and listen to music. He’s always been our main critic and damn, he totally knows his job! Everyone can learn something from him!
If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?
A very intense run of heavy music and theatrical parts. We love to represent our songs and the ambience they create on stage too. From the chaos of the intense riffs to the epic orchestral parts. We put a lot of energy on stage, but also we give space to the “vibes”.
If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?
Probably Lamb Of God. They are our main influence and also a band that we respect a lot! It could be a very hardcore tour with us together!
You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?
The very first rockstar ever: Mozart! He totally knew how to enjoy life and he was basically a genius. We would spend that hour talking about what he imagined when he was composing music and why. A quick drink together and back to real life!
And finally, and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?
What the fuck! no! Ahahaha why?!?!!
Thank you so much for this!!! See you all on the road soon!
