Wolf Alice are back after what’s been far too long!

It feels like a very long time since there’s been new music from Wolf Alice, mostly because it is quite a long time, four years to be precise. The good news is there is also an album coming and a substantial tour.

Trailblazing single for the new album, 'Bloom Baby Bloom' see the band really stretch themselves, it very much builds on what’s gone before while introducing some new aspects to their sound and pushing them in what feels both a more commercial direction while being rockier and jazzy, it’s not like anything else out there just now, thankfully.

The piano driven start which has a very 1970’s vibe to it, the breathy, almost ethereal vocals, the hints of Kate Bush and Florence, the suggestion of boundaries being pushed, the excellent rhythm section and the driving guitar work with hints at times of a jazz vibe all suggest this is a band really going for it after their lengthy absence.

There is a fantastic video to go with the song, a chorus line meets a teasing, full on vocal performance which really pushes the boundaries of Ellie’s range and shows just what she’s capable of and an overall vibe that this is just the beginning. It feels like Wolf Alice have decided to throw everything at this single release.

Am I looking forward to the album and the tour? you better believe it!

New album, 'The Clearing', is out on the 29th August with the tour to follow.
