The Dangerous Summer – 'We Can’t Stop' Single Review

I really didn’t see this one coming, as part of Changing Tides, a charity compilation album released by Rude Records to support Sea Shepherd The Dangerous Summer have covered Miley Cyrus, yes you read that right the first time.

Rude Records artists taking part in this project agreed cover songs on environmental topics and hopefully raise some much needed funds for environmental issues. The label donate profits to the cause of “raising awareness and make the world a better place” through music. 100% of collected funds will benefit Sea Shepherd. Sea Shepherd fights to defend, conserve and protect the ocean with direct action to defend marine wildlife and protect their habitat in the world's oceans.

Which is why choosing to cover Miley Cyrus is an interesting choice, it’s not really one I would have expected. It’s also not a song I would naturally associate with The Dangerous Summer but if you are going to do your first cover ever why not do something unexpected and different?

The bizarre and brilliant thing is it works, Miley’s version was more of a pop song, The Dangerous Summer have somehow managed to introduce pathos, emotion and also, somehow make you believe that this isn’t a Miley song at all but one of their own. They’ve made it sound like a rock song written from the perspective of someone who might be starting to question their life choices and think there might be something more important out there than just partying.

I didn’t think I’d enjoy this quite as much as I did. This is not the first single of this album I’ve reviewed and they’ve all been to this high level, I think it might be time to listen to the whole album!

Great cover version by a great band.
