Nickelback - AO Arena, Manchester 20.05.2024
Rocks most marmite band have come to Manchester and I for one am beyond excited.
I don't think I can really ever understand where all the hate for Nickelback comes from. Is it just cool to rip on them? or are they really that awful? Well a practically sold out Manchester Arena suggests there must be something here of note, or this is about to turn into the biggest roast in Manchester?
Packing a huge production the intro kicks things off and the band instantly get the crowd singing along. And what proceeds is essentially hit after hit after hit, with the likes of 'Savin' Me', 'Someday', 'When We Stand Together', 'Photograph', 'How You Remind Me', 'Gotta Be Somebody and 'Burn It To The Groud', you'd be hard pressed to not find something to enjoy from the 17 song set.
Fans are treated to a cover of Oasis' 'Don't Look Back In Anger' accompanied by the evenings support The Lottery Winners (who I sadly missed due to parking issues) which goes down a treat. As well as the so good you can't help but love it 'Rockstar' which sees a member of the audiance joing the band on stage to sing along.
Throughout the band look like they're having the times of their lives. Chad in particular beaming away and to me at least showcasing why he is one of rocks best frontmen.
When the encore is done and the lights come in after a rapturous applause from those in attendance, I realise my throat is raw from singing along, my face hurts from constantly smiling and I understand that I am right in my affirmation for this band. They are so good, on album, live and I know I am not the only one walking away tonight having had the time of my life.
