Hertfordshire based Pop group High Regard, comprising Georgia Casey (vocals), Jack Botterill and Oliver Nutkins (Guitars), Thomas Townsend (Bass) and Tim Charlwood (Drums), will release their debut single The Latter on Wednesday 13th May. The single was produced by Ryan Hyslop (Trash Boat).
'The Latter' is about periods of self doubt caused by anxiety and how that can bleed into personal relationships. It starts with a really catchy guitar, then the power kicks in and is soon joined by Georgia with a powerful breathy vocal. According to the band, the mix and drive behind the instruments and emotional sections of the song are there to reflect the ebb and flow of every day relationships. I would agree and this is a very catchy piece of power pop.
The periodic staccato is used to good effect. The music does contrast the lyrics, being upbeat and catchy, whilst delving into more personal issues. Jack and Oliver’s guitars work together well, and Thomas delivers a constant bass line. The percussion from Tim drives the song and adds power to the guitar riffs. I like the slow tempo dreamy ending to the track.
The band are very tight, in this very confident first release and they plan to release an EP before the end of the year. I will be looking forward to hearing what more they have to offer us.
In the song, Georgia asks ‘Do you really like me?’. On the evidence of this single, yes I do, and if the rest of the EP is like this single then I will hold you all in High Regard.
