Riskee & The Ridicule - 'Kaboom!' Single Review

Kent boys Riskee & The Ridicule have spat out new single "Kaboom!" as lead single and taster for new album "Body Bag Your Scene". And what a nice slice of tunage they've turned out for us.

Riskee & The Ridicule serve us politicised Punk with venomous lyrics spat out by frontman Scott Picking. Rather than adopting a Funk/Rock sound like a third rate RATM, the band take a leaf from Grime rappers. The lines follow the beats and rhythms of the song, giving them a real feel of urgency and desperation as, lyrically, the band attack the right and mainstream media for fanning the flames of hate and mistrust.

There's hooks aplenty in the single. It opens with a chorus so simple you'll find yourself joining in before it finishes its first run. It's that deceptively catchy. There's some smooth guitar parts from the band that allows Picking to layer his lyrics over the top. Drawing from Grime would make you think that they're up to the minute sounding but for me they tap the same well as bands like Pitchshifter, Sensor and Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprasy did years ago. They inform and entertain, feeding your mind as your body moves to it's groove.

This weekend sees the gang air their contagious tunes at the the prestigious Camden Rocks festival as well as Rebellion in Blackpool this August, a move should see them catching more than a few people's attention. Give them a good sized audience to play to and we'll be seeing some lively pits from these guys. Get on board now before they get huge, you can say you were part of something special.
