This is a great lineup from top to bottom. We all want to see the big names; George Ezra, Richard Ashcroft, The Vaccines, Nothing But Thieves, You Me At Six, Slaves, Primal Scream and The Charlatans. But I want to pick out a few bands that are also Not To Be Missed.
First, The Blinders. I saw these at Festival No6 on the Tim Peaks stage last year. I didn't know any thing about them at the time, but they totally blew me away.
Next, two bands I have seen a few times. I've photographed them at small gigs, so it's good to see The Amazons and The Slow Readers Club finally pull in the big crowds. Both are known for their loyal fan bases, so expect lots of energy and a fired-up mosh pit when they take to the stage.
Next, Gerry Cinnamon. Another act I knew next-to-nothing about before I saw his brilliant set at Trnsmt online (sorry, Gerry!). Check it out on YouTube, and you'll see this guy with a guitar is perfect for any festival.
Next up, three acts that I think could be future headliners (they're already on this week's Radio One Daytime Playlist!) Sam Fender is currently on a near-sold out tour, recently adding more dates in bigger venues for November and December. Pale Waves (can't believe I've not seen these live yet!) and Jade Bird: a great singer songwriter who is going to have a brilliant year.
I can't end this preview without mentioning Embrace, who are sure to bring their catalogue of hits to Weekender. Other acts I'll be watching are Sea Girls, Fuzzysun, Our Girl and The Ks. Like I said, this is a good lineup from top to bottom.
I'll also be looking out for Gin Garden, and that's not a band...it's a Gin Garden!
Neighbourhood Weekender is in Victoria Park, Warrington. Just 18 miles from Liverpool, 22 miles from Chester, 15 miles from Wigan and only 19 miles from Manchester.
