There seems to be a bit of a Punk Rock revival going on just now. At the recent Live at Leeds I saw a number of Punk inspired bands take the stage.
Heavy Hands EP takes them beyond and outside that revival.
It's melodic but still with plenty of attitude. There is a quality to the vocals that some bands can only aspire to. This is what Punk rock should sound like. Not just anger and lots of shouting but quality songs and a vocal that makes you want to hear more over a driven bass line, pounding drums and a razor-sharp guitar. There is a willingness to kick off at the right times but also reign it in and use quitter moments to increase the impact of the music. This isn’t just thrashing the life out of their instruments and lyrics that can barely be understood, it’s more than that.
They sound like a mix of The Skids, The Clash, Green Day and The Members combined but also very much like they are trying to find their own unique and distinct sound. When it all comes together it should propel them into the big league.
Personally, I really enjoyed this. I think you should give them a try. Are they the finished article? Not quite but there’s a lot of potential in this band. Watch this space, Heavy Rapids could be your next favourite band.
