Bronnie - O2 Academy 3, Birmingham 27.01.2019

It's Sunday afternoon in Birmingham and Pop-Punk singer song-writer Bronnie brings her 'Geeks & Freaks' tour to the second city at the O2 Academy 3. It's early doors at just 2pm this afternoon, but that doesn't stop fans turning up in full force.

Unfortunately due to a combination of a late taxi and trouble getting into the venue I miss the first two support bands, but I do manage to catch the last few songs of A Summer High's set, one thing I will say - kudos to the younger crowd today, they make so much noise for the support act that they would put even the most veteran of your average gig goers to shame, this is exactly how it should be!

I'm surprised to see Bronnie take to stage as early as she does, with the 6pm curfew still a few hours away, but a little later on I learn she is doing a huge meet and greet with fans after her set, which is an ace touch and one of the best things about these smaller intimate shows, it's only possible in venues like this. Bronnie comes flying out the traps, opening with 'Total Outcasts' and is instantly met with a huge roar from the crowd. Straight away the energy she gives off is felt throughout the room and her accompanying guitarist Peter Gebbie and drummer George Gebbie do a stellar job of keeping up.

A few songs in and we are met with the first of a few covers in the form of 'Shout Out To My Ex' by Little Mix, who Bronnie also happened to open for once back in 2017. The best of the covers without question though is Joan Jett & The Blackhearts 'Bad Reputation', Bronnie's raspy vocals are made for this song and it suits her punky charismatic persona perfectly. Another highlight has to be 'Stay', Bronnie's most recently released single, and a song that she wrote at the age of just 16.

The main set comes to a close with 'Social Rejex', here Bronnie takes the time to talk the crowd "If anyone ever tries to cramp your style, tell them politely to fuck off", Bronnie does seem to have a very genuine caring nature about her and you can tell just by looking at the faces in the crowd that they very much see her as a role model. She returns to the stage after the encore for one final cover, this time of My Chemical Romance's 'I'm Not Okay (I Promise)' and is sang right back to her by her adoring fans.

Judging from today I'd say that Bronnie is slowly making a name for herself, she already has a devoted fanbase who clearly look up to her, and that's only going to get bigger with time. Keep an eye out for Bronnie as the future looks like it's got bright things in store for her!
