Interview With 'Red Legs'

Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?

My name is Logan Bailey, I am the singer/guitarist of Red Legs, a four piece Alt-Rock act out of West Michigan. We all coalesced out of different corners of the state. Tim, our drummer, and I met in the later years of high school and have been jamming ever since. Luckily, once we decided to give this music thing a fair shot, David and Jaysyn made there way in and here we are today.

What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

Music has always been present for us in some way. We’re lucky to now have it be such a huge part of our lives. We all have passions outside of it, but the band has always found its way back into the forefront, now more than ever.

Tell us about your latest Album and why our readers should check it out.

We dropped our album “Animal Bones” in September of this year. We actually crowdfunded it and couldn’t be more proud and humbled by that. It’s crazy how much support we’ve had.

The album is different than anything we’ve done before. We wanted this to be a professional and wholesome sounding record. It turned into a surprisingly Blues-driven, sometimes angry and emotional group of songs. There’s a through line about finding adulthood and growing up in that mild, cold midwest pressure. I got married in the early stages of the writing process and that proved to be very important to the structure of the songs, in the best of ways. I couldn’t be more proud of what we were able to write and the feedback we’ve been getting from it. If you haven’t listened yet, please do, and let us know what you think!

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

Thus far everyone has been surprisingly chill and down-to-earth. I remember being struck by how relaxed Jordan Cook (Reignwolf) was in person, considering his intense and passionate performances. I assumed he would be that intense all the time, but it turns out the dude is a beast and also probably the nicest and most relaxed person ever. If you haven’t seen Reignwolf perform, do so as soon as humanely possible.

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

If you get there early enough you’ll definitely be able to have a beer with us. We try to be as approachable as we can be, on and off the stage. That being said, we can get a little lost in our music up there, but we’re told that’s exactly what makes our shows so memorable.

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

We’d love to share a stage with The Weeks, Microwave, Dead Sara or Michigander. If any of them are reading this, have your people call our people (we should really get some people).

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

I would love to spend an hour with Tom Petty. That guy shaped so much of my childhood (and adulthood). I can’t think of a better person to talk to about the songwriting process, touring life, and just trucking along for that long. He is incredibly missed.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

I’m told I have to say yes, or risk all members of my band quitting.
