Interview With 'To An End'

Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?

To An End comprises Al on vocals, Matt on guitar, Yiorgs on bass and Shane on drums. The band initially began as a project where myself (Matt) and Al wrote all of the songs and completed a full album studio recording. Then, it was easier to find band members once the album was completed and we could show people exactly what we were all about.

What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

Each member has been in various bands over the years but we really feel like this is the band we have been waiting for. We can't wait to get our songs out as far and wide as possible. I think we'd all do this band full time if it paid the bills! But for now, we just want to get out there and play as much as we can.

Tell us about your latest Album and why our readers should check it out?

Our debut full length album is titled 'Redefine' and is due out later this year. It is a diverse collection of songs with big riffs and grooves plus melodic hooks throughout. Each member has different musical tastes and personal styles but within that, there is our common ground. The feedback after live performances throughout 2018 has been extremely positive and we can't wait to get it out to the world. We have just released our new single Wasteland https://youtu.be/KodUFu2shKw

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

I met Slipknot at a meet and greet during their first Australian tour in 2000. Here was a band that was pushing the boundaries musically and with their visuals/live show, and they were all just there right in front of me. As a kid, this was pretty mind-blowing! I'm still a fan to this day and I respect their willingness to experiment and take risks musically.

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

Our goal live is to enjoy ourselves, be in the moment and play as hard as possible. Authenticity translates well to the audience and we love what we do, so it's always a blast. Our songs are big on energy and hooks so it doesn't take long before the crowd is moving and singing right along with us. That just fuels us more!

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

There are so many bands out there that have had impact on our lives. However, I think one band that ticks all of the boxes for us as a collective would have to be Metallica. They are a huge reason why we picked up instruments in the beginning. I think it's a right of passage for musicians into Rock/Metal to learn Metallica songs and then jam them with your mates. Being on a Metallica tour is the ultimate goal for any heavy band so be sure to let us know if they are looking for support bands haha

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

I'd have to pick Dimebag Darrell. A truly amazing player who left a huge legacy on heavy music. I think an hour hanging out with Dimebag would certainly be eventful after a Black Tooth Grin or 10! The conversation would start with chatting about the legendary riffs and songs, then I'd imagine it to end up in some sort of memorable chaos.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

Well, it is set around Christmas...plus any time is a good time for Die Hard. So yep, add it to the Christmas Movie list!
