Black Peaks - (Album Launch Show) OMEARA, London 05.10.2018
Black Peaks brought their stunning new album, 'All That Divides', to OMEARA last Friday, giving fans the opportunity to hear some of the new tracks on the very same day they were released and preview what’s to come on their tour.
Having only seen quite gentle acts at OMEARA (Dizzy, Arctic Lake, Yoke Lore), I was a bit apprehensive about whether an energetic band like Black Peaks would suit the venue that has quickly become one of my favourites in London. Thankfully these concerns were rapidly blown away as soon as opening track ‘The Midnight Sun’ kicked in.
The band seemed pleasantly surprised when the majority of the crowd cheered in response to frontman Will Gardner asking if anyone had already listened to the new album. Considering 'All That Divides' had been out for less than 24 hours, it really shows how dedicated Black Peaks’ fan base is to their music. In a testament to the new material, lead singles from the album, 'Electric Fires' and 'Can’t Sleep' seemed to get an even more energetic crowd reaction than the older favourites ‘Glass Built Castle’ and ‘Say You Will’
For the first night of a tour, Black Peaks showed real professionalism through their slick, controlled chaos. If you can’t make it to their tour, keep an eye on all the festivals they’ll surely get booked for next summer.
Overheard quotes from the crowd:
“Are we able to give it album of the year yet?”
“This song is so sick” (2 seconds into the intro of Can’t Sleep)
“I think I’m in love with Will”
