Interview With 'October Rain'
Firstly, introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?
Hi, I’m Angie, founder of the band October Rain. I’ve been in bands since my 16, but always as a singer… Then I co-found the duo Under the Skin with my good friend Yann. But something was still stinking me. I had some songs in my closet… So, encouraged by few friends including Tarah from the band Tarah Who? which is on the drums for this project, I’ve decided to make them real. This project was born probably 10 years ago in my head and became real to the world 10 months ago...
What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?
I was/am the second part of the duo Under The Skin, and in bands since my 16, but always as a singer (except for Under The Skin where I compose and play guitar). So, I think that I don’t really have the choice to make music it's in my guts… it’s just a part of me. And getting older doesn’t change this, it's just getting worst 'cause I want to test new things all the time.
Tell us about your latest release and why our readers should check it out.
It’s about fighting your fears, your frustrations. It’s about questioning who we are and who we want to be… and the fight we made every day. It's raw... it's Rock, it's simple... you just take it! Better than a therapy! You should test it 😉
Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?
Not in a good way, but I have opened once for a band pretty “big” in France few years ago and I have been awestruck to see that these guys were just a bunch of assholes, pretentious, arrogant. They were pretending to be a Punk band and cool guys... but they‘re just the opposite! There is a lot of fake people in the music industry... but with the experience I see them coming most of the time.
If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?
Well, I worked for years with one of my really good friend Bertille, who is an amazing light engineer! She has tonnes of ideas to create a very unique light show and an atmosphere on stage. We are working together on a plan to make a show where the journey is not only musical but also visual.
If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?
There's a lot… but as I just heard her on the radio, I would say P!nk, we could be very good friends.
She seems to be fun and a really nice person… she loves wine and whiskey… just like me!
I have seen a show once, it's was amazing, she is a great artist.
You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?
There is also a lot, but let’s say Janis Joplin… I’m a big fan… I'd love to know how it was, for a woman back in those years. Because nowadays it’s not always easy to be taken seriously, so maybe it was even harder for her before? or not... I'm just curious.
And finally, and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?
Ha ha, yes of course it is!! But only the first three!! Most of the time it’s better to let legends stay legends. Just like a lot of movies trying to make new episodes years after, is not a good idea!
