Interview With 'The Hazytones'

Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?

The Hazytones are a Stoner Rock band from Montreal, Canada. It was formed three years ago when Mick Martel contacted friends Fred Couture and Tony Lamast to form a Rock 'n' Roll band. First album was release two years ago and got a success oversees thanks to the internet. They later signed the album on Kozmik Artifactz and Ripple Music label. Since then the line-up has changed to bring you their second album 'The Hazytones II: Monarchs of Oblivion' on Ripple Music. The band is now formed of Groove Master Adam Gilbert (bass) and Victor Tremblay (drums). They are soon leaving on a journey to conquer Europe once again in 7 Countries. There Psych/Stoner sound has just been amplified with this new album, stay tuned October 5th for the full release.

What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

For all of us, music was always our biggest dream, that's why we take the time to invest in the band and go do extensive touring. Victor grew up with musician parents who brought him in the music at a young age. Adam has studied music younger and always dreamed of being in a successful band, and Mick has been in Original bands for the past 10 years. So we're not stranding away too much from the music path.

Tell us about your latest Album and why our readers should check it out.

I really want to talk about the upcoming release, it's an album that has been in the works for the past two years. We decided to name it the 'Hazytones II' because it was to me, really the continuity of the first album. I think the songs are more mature and dark on this one and I'm really looking forward to our fans reception. Also if you're not a fan I think you're going to find some good Stoner grooves in the album but also a bit or originality! We are trying not to sound like every band out there.

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

That's what's fun about touring and travelling, you meet people from all around the world that leave you awestruck and inspire you. As a musicien it's important to draw influences from all over so I don't think it's possible without travelling and experiencing other cultures. People surprise me all the time and in the end, every night we get to live new adventure with new friends.

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

You can expect a power trio that gives their all every night. We like to have a killer sound even though we're only a three piece. Also you can expect to hear our songs differently, with a heavier approach. We'll always do longer solos a bit like Led Zeppelin did so every show is an experience.

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

I guess this one is a bit of a stereotype but the first artist that comes to mind would be Black Sabbath. They spun the movement for all the scene that we are into. If ever we receive that call it would be a dream come true. I'm not sure how much longer will Ozzy tour thought so we're not counting on it too much, but you never know...

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

I, Mick Martel, I would probably pick some dude that died in weird circumstances. I'd love to speak with Jim Morrison or Brian Jones to know what really happened with their death. Also I would ask them a lot questions about the 60's it's one of the era that really fascinates me. I would show them Stoner Tock to see how they feel about this type of music.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

I think if you're high on acid anything can be a Christmas Movie.
