Interview With 'Dario Distasi'

Firstly, introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about your project and how you came to be?

Hi guys and thank you so much for having me today! Well, I’ve been into music from a very early age. When I heard the sound of an overdriven guitar (I think it was one of Keith Scott’s riffs), I was blown away! I have been into different styles since then (studying with incredible guitar teachers, playing Prog-Metal at 18, recording promotional videos for Mayones Guitars, and so on). Ultimately though, what I have always wanted to do was writing songs. I moved to Manchester in 2015, drawn by the local music scene. In Manchester, I have recorded my debut EP ‘Nowhere Avenue’, and played with several bands; also, I perform acoustic gigs. Right now, I am working with Drew Middleton; he is an amazing, Nashville-based producer, and the tracks we’re working on sound like a dream!

What were you up too prior to this, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

I have to say I have so many interests I rarely get bored! Throughout the years, I’ve always liked studying different subjects and doing lots of stuff. Music has always been the most important of those though! To answer your question: writing, recording and performing my music has always been my dream, and no matter what, that's a that's a life-long relationship. With songwriting, you make a friend for life. Also, being passionate about so many things in life, I think I still have inspiration for a few hundred songs!

Tell us about your latest EP and why our readers should check it out!

I think there’s a very distinctive feel to my debut EP, which I am proud about. There are some dark songs (that’s where the EP title ‘Nowhere Avenue’ comes from), but there’s room for hope as well. It mainly is about feeling lost and overwhelmed, when so many things are happening at the same time, and about recovering.

I think Rock fans should check it out as it’s… not the debut EP you'd expect. Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why? Quite often, really, and I’m sure it will happen again. Some examples may include talking guitars and pedals with Carl Verheyen in L.A. after an amazing gig, and working with two of the most talented producers I’ve met, Chris Taylor and Drew… Please stay tuned, I have a few interesting things to tell you about that! If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

To me, it's all about positive energy. A great sound. And the best songs I have.

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

It would definitely be Chris Cornell. I can still picture him onstage at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester... He's been an incredibly inspiring musician for me. I' like to discuss songwriting and the inspiration behind his songs.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

Oh yeah, man!
