Interview With 'The Sourheads'

March 19, 2018

Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?

The Sourheads have been around for a few years but as this line up just over two years. We play Classic Rock influenced music and have a larger than life frontman who is the bastard son of Iggy Pop and Jim Morrison. We are all influenced by multiple genres of music and we try to show that in the music we make. We love loud guitars and putting on a show.

What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

We were all in previous bands and some of them released albums and basically did the same kind of thing. Ben is the brother of INME drummer Simon Taylor and his dad also plays music. I studied music at university and now lecture in popular music. Jake our singer has been an artist and is a good cook. Lamb our drummer is a mysterious soul who we don't know much about. He used to play in a few Indi bands back in the day and was part of the scene that spawned The Cribs.

Tell us about your latest Album and why our readers should check it out.

Our album is called 'Care Plan For The Soul' and is out on Vinyl, CD and digitally through Oak Island/Kozmic Artifactz records. Its a pure slice of Rock 'n' Roll. We are not contrived or image chasers. What you get is what you see. Some reviewers really get it some can't understand why the drummer and bass player wear glasses and the singer has no top on. Honestly A famous magazine spent the whole review talking about what we looked like and not about the music. To us everything is about the music and our live shows. We like to think what we do is honest and our friends and fans are all in the know.

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

I met Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue once outside of the Manchester Apollo. It lasted 2 seconds as everyone else spotted him and mobbed him. I'm really into horror films. I've met loads of these people. Corey Feldman was a nice guy. I've been in awe at gigs by the power of the performance but never really by people. They are just like us. I would like to think of them as our equals. I would love to have a conversation with some of them. Owe Yea Frank Stallone was a really nice guy he is a grammy nominated musician who writes a lot of the music for his brothers films. Met him at Normans Rare Guitars in LA.

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

A loud energetic performance that can be enjoyed by all. We really put our all into our shows and feel this transfers well with the audience. We had some great feedback from Labour Party deputy leader Tom Watson who came to our album launch. He tweeted some footage and said "Can you hear that London?!" We like to get the audience to participate too. Jake often jumps into the crowd and makes friends mid song.

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

Queens Of The Stone Age. Because they are a great band and I think we would go down well together.

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

I would love to chat with Alice Cooper. I would ask about the inspiration for much of his early work. I would also ask him about how he has two personalities and whatseparates them. I would also ask about the chicken throwing incident and what 70s hollywood was like as I love Hollywood and spend a lot of time on Laurel Canyon. Jake would say Jim Morrison.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

No its an action movie set at christmas. Whereas something like Gremlins has blatant christmas links like the story of her dad stuck in the chimney dressed as Santa and Young Corey Feldman dressed as a christmas tree. So apart from the christmas party at the beginning no.
