Fleer - 'Lay Me Down' Single Review

Fleer, as those of you who have also just finished watching the “F” series of Qi on Dave will know, means to “Laugh impudently or jeeringly”. It is also the name of a 3 piece from the Midlands who have just recently released their new single “Lay Me Down”.

The band cite Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Queens Of The Stone Age and Pixies as influences but even if you’d not visited their website before listening you could reel off this list after the first listen…it sounds like a sub par wannabe Seattle song complete with that weird muffled production sound that was all too prevalent in the early to mid 90’s.

I’ve listened to it 5 times now and it feels so steeped in that era that I’ve started to look around for the copy of Select that it might have come free with.

Sorry Fleer…for me this single deserves another “F” word – forgettable.
