Interview With 'Hey Brooklyn'

Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?

We are Hey Brooklyn, a three piece Pop Rock band from Staffordshire. There's Jack, 21, guitarist and main vocals, Connor, 21, bassist and backing vocals and Chad, 23, drummer. We all come from in and around a place called Cannock, in Staffordshire. Jack and Connor have known each other since primary school, also attending the same high school, but it wasn't until the end of GCSEs that they first started playing in bands together. After a couple of bands that flopped, Jack and Connor decided to start doing acoustic stuff under the name Hey Brooklyn, but wasn't until the following year we got Chad involved. We knew Chad through a friend at high school and had seen videos of his drumming.

What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

Jack and Connor were both studying music in further education, while Chad was working full time. Jack and Connor have always wanted a career in music, be it whether its recording, writing or playing it.

Tell us about your latest and why our readers should check it out.

Hey Brooklyn's debut EP 'Party Girls' came out March 2017. The best way to describe the music would be Pop Rock, with strong guitar riffs and heavy hitting drums. The songs have a heavy use of hooks and repetition that gets stuck in your head. What makes this EP special to us is that it was all recorded in Jack's living room, all produced by the band and the mixing and mastering else where.

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

None of the band have unfortunately come face to face with someone in music that has left us awestruck.

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

You and others should expect a very energetic show, lots of movement and crowd interaction. We enjoy playing the music that we have created and it shows with our live performances.

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

Connor: I'd love on tour with my favourite band, Parkway Drive. I've been listening to them for years and it would my dream to share a stage with them. Unfortunately because of the difference in genres, I don't see that happening.

Jack: I'd love to go on tour with Good Charlotte as they're one of the bands that really brought me into music. The album 'The Young And The Hopeless' is still one of my all time favourite albums.

Chad: I would want to go on tour with A Day To Remember because my favourite album is 'Homesick' by them.

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

Connor: I'd spend an hour with Simon Grove. He is the bassist for an instrumental band called Plini and I think he is a phenomenal bassist. I'd like to speak about the style of music he plays and maybe learn a few hints and tips off him.

Jack: It would be James Bourne form Busted. I'd like to speak to him about his work with Busted to Son Of Dork. Alongside his work with many other artists and theatrical work recently, I think he'd be an amazing song writer to talk to.

Chad: I'd like to spend time with Matt Halpern, the drummer from Periphery, as he was the one who influenced me to play drums, and he is simply a god at drumming.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

Of course Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
