Interview With 'The Lunar Effect'

Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?

We are Jon, Dan, Josh and Brett and we are The Lunar Effect. We came to be because the magnetism of our collective genius pulled us together from our various boring lives. But mostly due to being related, living near each other and placing adverts for musicians who aren’t dicks.

What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

WWF Champion. Definitely. Dan and Jon were in other bands together, Brett was in the Marines and Josh was on the missing person’s register at some point. Obviously we all wanted to be musicians and to play in a band; it’s much better than a real job and much more attainable than some of our dreams earlier in our lives. Would still fucking love to be WWF Champion though.

Tell us about your latest EPand why our readers should check it out.

Our latest EP is 'Strange Lands' and is available digitally through all the major music places and also physically on CD from our Bandcamp or at one of our shows. Why should your readers check it out? Because it’s really fucking good and it will get you in the mood for our next record which is shaping up to sound even better. We aren’t just a Stoner band, a Classic Rock band or a Grunge band. There are elements of all of these in our influences but they don’t define our sound.

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

No, nobody has ever gotten that reaction from us. Maybe because we haven’t met anyone awe inspiring yet, though at one point we used to hang out with the drummer from The Darkness, he liked a drink.

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

The four of us playing some dirty, fuzzy, groovy tunes and overpriced beer. We did have a porn star turn up at a gig once.

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

Probably Queens Of The Stone Age, but only if they supported us, and if they promised not to play anything from their new album. Or Graveyard, they are awesome. How they aren’t more well-known is a crime.

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

That’s a weird question. If we met a dead icon like Bowie or Lennon, would probably just chat about what’s it like to be dead. Then complain about why they set the bar so high.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

Of course it is. It snows and has Christmas songs in it. Lethal Weapon is also a great Christmas film.
