I don’t think I have ever taken so long over a review of anything before! I usually give anything several listens, I feel I owe the bands that much, not just some knee jerk reaction to skimming over the release.

The Lowestoft band Scream Serenity’s debut album has me confused, even now about five listens in I’m not sure I even like it! There is no shortage of action, the songs are packed full high octane, well crafted, excellently produced with a talented set of musicians and great vocals. So what’s not to like?

Well that’s just it, I don’t know. Something is missing, who knows what, but it’s just not there (for me anyway). It’s not a bad album by any means, I’m just not emotionally engaged in it. Several tracks have moments, great guitar solos (did I mention I’m a sucker for a guitar solo?), I’ve found myself grinning at several listens, but....... But! I’m listening to it now, as I type, I’m on track three “Save Yourself” and I’m feeling a bit bored, sure it’s just opened up to one of them guitar breaks but overall it’s just not doing it for me.

As is often the case I’m sure people would heartily disagree with this review, I suggest you do give this album a listen and take from it what you will, you might take a lot more from it than I did. I don’t like doing a negative review for anything, anyone can do that, I would much rather do a positive review, let’s get these bands heard is what I say. I’m not saying this is a bad album even, as I said it has moments for me, maybe listening to the full album from start to finish is not the way to listen to this album, I suspect that each song would exist very well on it’s own.

So, to condense all of that: Good effort guys, but not for me.
