Interview With 'Verity White'

Firstly, introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about your music and how you came to be a musician?

Hello! I’m Verity White, an Indie Rock songstress from Cheltenham! My voice has been compared to people like Stevie Nicks but with Joan Jett and Lzzy Hale thrown in, fronting a band with a sound like Foo Fighters or Royal Blood - so it’s a pretty fun combo. Although, that’s just what others have said and I always find it hard to compare myself to other people so I’ll just say this - my music is Rock based but takes inspiration from Grunge, Industrial, Folk, Soul and Electronic - so it’s definitely varied.

What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

I always wanted to be a singer but I didn’t have much confidence growing up as I suffered a lot with mental health problems which meant I shied away from my dreams for fear of failure. I actually only started releasing my own music last year, previously to that I was involved in function bands and theatre shows as well as a few touring productions, while I worked away in annoying office jobs to pay the bills!

Tell us about your upcoming album and why our readers should check it out?

'Breaking Out' is my first full length album, which will be out late October this year. I was super happy to get the funds for the release through a successful kickstarter campaign, I couldn’t have done it without them and am enterally grateful (BIG UP MY KICKSTARTER PEOPLES!) It’s the culmination of the last year’s work with the amazing producer Alex White (who also happens to be my husband, if you find a good producer do NOT let them get away!) Expect glimpses of everything I’ve previously released, from the 'Parentheses' EP through to the Rock singles singles I’ve shared earlier in the year ('Too Much', 'Look Inside', 'I Don’t Care') with a smattering of my acoustic EP ('Stripped Bare') too! I’m hoping that, as the music is influenced from loads of different places, there will be something for all sorts on it - but it’s main root is definitely Rock - so if you’re a fan of female fronted Rock music you should give it a whirl!

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

Not yet... though I’m still pinning my hopes on meeting Trent Reznor one day...

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

Loud music, no holds barred bouncy weirdness, slightly awkward sexual innuendos, general fun times and probably cats, or unicorns, or unicats. Me on stage is basically the same as me everywhere else, which some may say is a good thing and others...

I’m super looking forward to my support slots on the Pendragon tour around Europe this Autumn and also my solo tour in January, it’s going to be a blast!

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

Nine Inch Nails, see above comment on Trent Reznor. I need to glean his songwriting genius, and steal him and keep him in a cupboard somewhere for strategic music problem-solving.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

HELL YES!! My and my brother watch it nearly every Christmas!!
