Interview With 'Cinders'

Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?

We are Cinders, a 6 piece Indie Pop Rock band best described as rowdy Acoustic Pop from Salt Lake City, UT. We started our band about a year and a half ago, after all coming to the self realization that playing music is the only thing we want to do the rest of our lives. We all are also self-proclaimed professional Spikeball players…

Adrian De La Cruz: Bass Guitar

Austin Harris: Saxophone/Keyboard/Accordion/Melodica/Vocals

Brad Bennett: Drums/Percussion

Chelsey Harris: Saxophone

Montana Smith: Vocals/Electric Guitar

Jordan Zabriskie: Vocals/Acoustic Guitar

What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

Whether it was in different bands or writing and performing solo, we were all involved in creating and playing music. We had each always wanted to move it into a career but hadn’t ever found the right group of people to work with. Then after a few jam sessions, instagram messages, and heart to hearts later… Cinders was born.

Tell us about your latest Album and why our readers should check it out.

Just over a year ago we released our first album! Since its release, it's been streamed over a million times and because of its success we've been able to play all around The West Coast of the United States! We have been able to expand our audience in ways we never thought were possible! If you like feel good Indie Rock and also don’t know how to talk to a girl, give it a listen.

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

A few years ago, I (Adrian) had the opportunity to see and meet one of my favorite bands of all time, Bomb The Music Industry!, and everything about them left me completely speechless. The energy they brought, their stellar performance, and the way they presented themselves both on and off stage really resonated well with me.

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

Lots of jumping, lots of singing, and you always have a chance at seeing one of us trip and fall... Because it happens a lot. The best a part is being able to talk and hang out with our fans in person. Our fans may think that they are more excited to meet us than we are to meet them, but it is the opposite. It is seriously the funnest and most fulfilling part of being in a band!

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

Grouplove because they are crazy and fun and rock hard but their genre isn't like a Hard Rocker band, just like us. One of our favorite bands to listen to. Also we feel like a lot of their fans would love us too!

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

Haha first thing that comes to mind would prolly be Michael Jackson- the man is a musical genius. I (Chelsey) don't know what we would talk about, probably just exchange some sick dance moves and call it good. But also the Beatles, I want to know if Paul actually is dead. #strawberryfieldsforever.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie.?

Easiest answer of all time. YES!!!!! Die Hard and Die Hard 2 are two of the greatest Christmas films of all time. They are on our list of Cinders Christmas movies to watch each year. Also on that list is Elf, Christmas Vacation, and Pete’s Christmas.
