Interview With 'The Cordial Sins'

Firstly, introduce yourself/yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?

My name is Liz Fisher and I am the front woman for The Cordial Sins, an Alt-Rock band based in Columbus, OH. Corey (guitar, vocals) and I began playing music together in 2012 and decided to pursue this as a career. In 2013, we added Jeremy (drums) and began forming what is now the most polished iteration of the band. After undergoing a line up and sound change, we were able to bring Kyle (guitar) on board and release our first album, "Daze". We've worked with a few bassists but view the four of us as the core band members.

What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

Kyle, Jeremy and I are all Ohio State Alumni but for all four of us, music has been an integral part of our lives for a long time. It has been within the last two years that we've really kicked it into gear in order to realize this dream.

Tell us about your latest Album and why our readers should check it out.

Our first and only album, "Daze" is a pretty fantastic introduction to our sound. I truly believe there's something on it for everyone and we've only progressed since. Our latest release, "Go On" (single) is the most polished song of ours to date. It's much more guitar-heavy than "Daze" and is also really Radiohead-inspired, in my opinion.

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

We've had the opportunity to meet several musicians that we really admire, many of which we've been lucky enough to perform alongside (Genevieve, Civil Twilight, The Features, just to name a few..). One of the highlights of my performance career thus far has been been meeting Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes. I've admired them from the start and she seems to be a really sincere and easy-going person. Plus, she's one hell of a performer!

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

I think we're a lot of fun to see live. I try to be as active as possible on stage while maintaining the focus required to deliver a good performance. I think it's really important to give an audience just as much quality live as they hear on a recording, and we try to be visually pleasing as well. Corey is usually all over the stage wailing on the guitar and the rhythm section likes to stay tight-knit. Overall, we have a lot of fun together and I think that shows.

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

Probably Wolf Alice. I think we have fairly similar sounds and instrumentation, and I really admire Ellie's songwriting. Overall, they have an interesting sound and a great stage performance. I'd love to tour alongside them and get to know them more.

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

That's easy -- Josh Homme. I've been a huge QOTSA fan since I was 13 and there's no doubt in my mind that he'd be my first choice. I can't really imagine how that conversation would go, but I'm willing to bet it would be interesting!

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

Not sure I'm best suited to answer this since I've never seen it. Whoops!
