Interview with 'Chasing Sounds'
Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?
We are Chasing Sounds a melodic HC/Punk band based in Vienna Austria.
I'm Attila one of the founding members I play Bass and try to "sing" harsh backing vocals in the band. I'm the songwirter, and since I compose mainly on Guitar I record all the Guitars & Bass in the studio as well. The band was ''officialy'' formed by Mate (Drums) and myself on Aug. 8th 2013 which means, it was the day when we put together our very first song ''Knock Out'' which later became our first single along with a music video to it as well. Mate and me knew each other since elementary school, and we've been in our first garage band together back in 2005. We managed to break up before we even had a singer or a gig. We remained friends though, hung out and knew it way before that we're gonna end up in a real band together. The only question was when. It took us ''only'' 8 years to get our shit together. So everything was planned, it wasn't just a lucky coincidence. In early 2015 Florian (Singer) and Mate K. (Guitar) finalised our line up, so I moved backed to my beloved Bass. This was the original plan, and it seemed to work for a while.
What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?
I've been in several bands most of my life, the latest was Good Reason from Bratislava (SK) a band that had potential, toured, had great songs, and a small following too. I had high expectations from that band, but unfortunately it didn't turn out the way I imagined it at all. After constant drummer issues the band stagnated for a while and unofficially called it a day. Speaking for myself it was a chosen path and I really can't think of anything I could do outside of this. My only dream was to do the same thing, but somewhere else. (in the US) so I have partially fulfilled it.
Tell us about your latest Album and why our readers should check it out.
Our debut album 'Elektrobioscope' came out on December 3rd 2015 so as your reading this, it's gonna be one year old in around two weeks. I think there is a little bit of everything, on this album people who listen to Hardcore, Metal, Punk or any other sub-genre of this music will find, at least one song which they will like. Just take the opening song 'Here We Are' it's an instant throwback to the 90's skatepunk scene, fans of fast paced bands like Pennywise, No Use For A Name and similar will probably like it. Another song 'Spirit Of AC' is again very Pop/Punk driven like late 90's Blink 182 it's got that Dude Ranch feel to it. An album which created a musical milestone in my life, and if anyone wonders what does 'AC' stands for it's Atlantic City the place were we hung out and got the inspiration, for this song. Moving on to other songs on the album 'Corrupted Bullshit' 'Knock Out' 'False Flag Attack' are straight
up oldschool Hardcore songs, with a great portion of NYHC vibe. Fans of Madball, H2O, Biohazard, Agnostic Front should check them out. Especially when we perform them live, that's where all the energy comes out, and if the crowd is feeling it those are the best moments of our shows. Then we got the title track 'Elektrobioscope' & 'Yesterday's No Different' which are the more serious songs, and definitely the best ones on the whole record. Judge it yourself and give it a go, the album is on our Bandcamp page you can download it for FREE!
Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why.
Not really, apart from some minor incidents which are considered normal in a band's life,
like sharing equipment at the shows, not being on time (from both sides promoters or band)
or having a hard time booking gigs, that's probably the worst part of being in a band. Since we
are on a D.I.Y. level very often it's a pain in the ass (especially in mine) to get enough shows.
We are looking for a serious individual or Booking agency to work with! If we are talking about
booking gigs let's not judge one another by our personal actions. If I'm willing to pay for a service which has to be done within some deadlines let's stick to it. Even if we don't share the same opinion about some personal topics. So guys and girls is there a great Booking Agent out there? If yeah, hit us up ASAP!
If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?
You can expect 4 guys sweating their asses off for 40 minutes straight, jumping around, falling mic stands, cymbals (sometimes with hardware) cause he hits so hard, screaming straight in your face. Doesn't matter if your a guy or a girl if your in the front row, you better be prepared for it! Me head-butting our guitarist Mate K. if he messes up during a song or you might just find me right next to you in the crowd with or without my Bass in the middle of a song. It all depends on the crowd. If we see that everybody is into it, if we can feed off of their energy the things you can experience at the show are unlimited.
If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?
Were supporting Ignite for one show in December, it would be awesome to tour with those guys. They have a lot of influence on our music, and we get that back a lot from people who have listened to our songs. Which is a huge compliment. From the not very well known bands I'd love to tour with Dead Neck from the UK they're amazing, so Andy if your reading this you know where you can find me haha. Let's dream a bit too childhood favorites Sum 41 are still great, that would be huge to tour with them. You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?
Oh man, that's a hard one so I gotta say from the dead ones it would be Freddie Mercury, just because Queen was the very first band I started to listen to. I gotta thank my parents for playing me those records not Europop and other radio crap which was popular in the 90's when I was a kid. I would ask him about all the crazy shit he did backstage, I'd make a fact or fiction kinda interview with him, and if it would be a fact he would have to say more details about the topic. Like snorting coke from a midgets head or whatever I read in his autobiography.
And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?
Definitely it goes hand in hand with Home Alone 1 and 2 but I prefer the Back To The Future Trilogy or Nightmare On Elm Street, it's the ultimate Christmas movie don't you think?
