Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?
Hi, we are called The Dystopian Project. We are a Progressive Rock band based in Dublin, Ireland. We came together when a few members ended some projects and wanted to take the next step creatively. After coming from some really heavy backgrounds musically, the natural step to challenge ourselves was towards the progressive side of things. Trying to stretch ourselves and musicians and songwriters.
What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?
We were all musicians in other projects before this. We all have day jobs at this point, but music was always the master plan.
Tell us about your latest EP and why our readers should check it out.
Our new EP is called "Paradigm" and is being released very soon. Its a new step for us directionally as a band. The songs are a bit more progressive and the vocal harmonies more pronounced and vibrant. There is a cohesiveness to the songs that has grown from the writing of our first EP. Back then we were still finding our rhythm as a song writing unit.
Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?
Yes, but not for greatness! Two of us supported a big name band and were less than impressed with their treatment of their fans. It was a stark lesson in how not to behave. Those 5 minutes out of your life will make a fans day, or week. Always remember they put you there.
If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?
An immersive musical experience and a lightshow to blow you away. We have tailored the visual aspect of our show to fit and run with our set to bring the audience right into the show with us.
If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?
There are so many we would love to tour with, but Pink Floyd would be unreal. They have always been the bench mark for live shows, to even get a glimpse at how that runs would be a dream come true.
You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?
Would love to sit down with Steven Wilson and ask him to produce our next record! He is such a musical force in the progressive world, and has had a big, albeit indirect, influence on how TDP sound.
And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?
Yes. Yes it is.
We just want to say thank you for taking the time to answer our questions.
