Interview With 'Redwire'

Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?

Redwire started with D and Aimee realising a mutual love of music, jamming after work and beginning to write riffs and improvising together. After a while D’s songwriting was getting better, they realised the songs were actually pretty good, so they started to look for other band members to perform together. They first found singer Mario in early 2014 and started serious rehearsals for their first gig at the 12 Bar Club in May 2014.

What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

We’ve all done a variety of jobs over our time, but it’s fair to say that music played a big part in all our lives. It’s only now that we’re putting it together for something really successful.

Tell us about your latest EP and why our readers should check it out.

Our self-titled debut EP was recorded in 2015 and features 5 of our most popular songs at the time including crowd pleasers 'The Captain' and 'Rock ‘n’ Roll Lies'. They are driving and relentless in their energy, with aggressive vocals and kick-ass guitar solos, but the more mellow ballad, 'Street Lights' allows time for reflection and swells to a beautiful triumphant sing-along chorus.

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

We’ve encountered a whole lot of incompetent people in music promotion and sound engineering, so it’s really refreshing to come across the precious few who actually care about the work they do, and do it really well. Ivan Roberts and Andy Cavendish are particular promoters who do a very good job putting together a decent night of good music, and promote it well, and Max at the Alleycat is a tremendous sound engineer who really wants to get the best sound possible out of the band.

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

Expect a whole load of energy! We play loud and pour a whole load of feeling into it. We like a big stage so we can move around a lot, and it’s not uncommon for us to jump off the stage and right into a mosh pit. Sometimes we even have members of the crowd storming the stage to dance. I like the blurring of lines between crowd and band. It’s a collective experience.

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

I’d say Heaven’s Basement, because we love their music and their attitude. They’re not massively well known in the UK, but they’re doing well enough to make a living from it, which is kinda what we’re aiming for too. They’ve inspired us for a few songs, and we have enjoyed their live gigs. I think being on tour with them would be a whole lot of fun.

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

Slash, Duff or Axl would be great to have personal insights into the early days in the Sunset Strip and how our favourite genre of music really took off.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

Of course.
