Interview With 'The Roseville Band'

June 20, 2016

Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?

We're The Roseville Band from Wrexham, a small town in North Wales. We're a four piece band that formed in late 2006, and we're now about to release our 4th album.

What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?

To be honest, while we all have a range of different interests away from music, we've all been in bands since we were kids, and playing music is really the thing that we love to do.

Tell us about your latest EP and why our readers should check it out.

Our new album 'BLOOD' will be released in October. We've just released the first single - 'Order' - from the album, which people can download from our website. Not that we set out to do it this way, but with everything going on in the world right now, it was difficult for all of that not to influence what we were doing. So that thread runs through the new album, which gives it a bit of an explosive mix.

Who would you say is the bands main song writer or is it a group effort and where do you draw your inspiration lyrically and musically from?

We all write, but it's fallen in such a way where I'll bring the song idea to the studio, and we'll complete the arrangement together. So there's a range of influences going into it all, because we all bring different ideas to the table. As kids we all equally loved the likes of Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, and Led Zeppelin, and it's those bands that we learnt how to play along to as teens, so that always stays with you to a degree, but you get excited by other records, and in our new music there's everything from the influences of Krautrock to bands like Echo & The Bunnymen and Sigur Rós in places.

As a band what do you believe is your greatest achievement to date?

Really pleased that we got to tour our last album in the US. We also toured in Canada over 5 trips over last 4 years, which we loved too, but the US is such a big challenge, that even getting awarded a touring visa for the US is an achievement for new bands coming through, and we got to play some amazing places like New York, Boston, Chicago, and Washington DC. We had a great time out there, and that experience of touring in the US massively influenced our new album too.

Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?

Meeting Michael Rother of NEU! was pretty cool, but I didn't really know what to say to him, so I just handed him a whisky.

If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?

Lots of energy, and we're very loud. It's full on from start to finish.

If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?

Echo & The Bunnymen. Just love so many of their songs.

You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?

David Bowie. Would imagine he would have a lot of amazing stories to share.

And finally and most importantly is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?

Well a good friend of mine actually once called the BBC at Christmas time to ask why it wasn't being shown, so I think people do think of it that way, and I trust my friends opinion on that, so I'll say yes.

We just want to say thank you for taking the time to answer our questions.

Thanks!
